On August 21, the Armenian government passed a resolution to allocate $100 000 in aid to Iraq’s Yazidi population in light of the recent political crisis in the region.

Chairman of the World Yezidis Union Aziz Tamoyan held a press conference on Tuesday and spoke of the Yezidi genocide being committed in Iraq.

According to him, 1,300,000 Yezidis are living in the north of Iraq.

“The Yezidi villages have barbarously been destroyed, and only hills have remained,” Mr Tamoyan said.

He is calling on the international community and superpowers to deal with the problem.

“They have a program of creating a Kurdistan and they are destroying other peoples – Armenians, Greeks all others living there.”

Sheikh Bro Hasanyan, noted the Yezidis have fallen victim to political and territorial ambitions of a few people. This is a plan by the Iraqi and Turkish presidents.

This is a second genocide against Yezidis, he said.

ohn Heffern, the U.S. ambassador in Yerevan, met with leaders of Armenia’s Yazidi community on Wednesday to discuss the plight of their displaced co-ethnics in Iraq.

In Murazi’s words, the Yazidis also want Washington to supply them with weapons for self-defense and help create a Yazidi autonomy in Iraq. “All Yazidis hope for the creation of an autonomy because even if this fighting ends and, God willing, the Islamists are driven out of Yazidi areas Yazidis cannot imagine their future life there with the same status and under the same regime,” he said.

"Meine Geschichte hat viel mit der Situation im Irak zu tun. Ich war geschockt, als ich von dem Völkermord hörte, der gerade im Irak stattfindet. Ich dachte, ich bin 100 Jahre zurückversetzt. Während des Genozids 1915 an den Armeniern wurden auch die Jesiden verfolgt. Das wissen die wenigsten. Die Geschichten, die ich heute höre, die Bilder die ich sehe - die erinnern mich an die Geschichten meines Urgroßvaters. Er und seine Familie wurden damals vor die Wahl gestellt: Konversion oder Tod. Viele Familienmitglieder sind vor seinen Augen misshandelt und umgebracht worden, ein paar Verwandte haben es nach Armenien geschafft, von dort sind sie weiter nach Georgien und Russland."
